Which Dental Group Practices, DSOs, and Dental Companies Made the Inc. 5000 2019 List?

The Inc. 5000 annual list of America’s fastest-growing privately held companies for 2019 has been released and there are 30 dental companies on the list this year. Out of those 30, 15 are dental care providers with a mix of DSOs, single location dental practices, and dental group practices.  Below, we included not only DSOs, single location dental practices, and dental group practices, but other dental related companies that dentists may partner with for services and/or products.

The 2019 Inc. 5000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth when comparing 2015 and 2018. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2015. They had to be U.S.-based, privately held, for profit, and independent—not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies—as of December 31, 2018. (Since then, a number of companies on the list have gone public or been acquired.) The minimum revenue required for 2015 is $100,000; the minimum for 2018 is $2 million.

Not only have the companies on the 2019 Inc. 5000 been very competitive within their markets, but the list as a whole shows staggering growth compared with prior lists. The 2019 Inc. 5000 achieved an astounding three-year average growth of 454 percent, and a median rate of 157 percent. The Inc. 5000’s aggregate revenue was $237.7 billion in 2018, accounting for 1,216,308 jobs over the past three years.

The list is considered the most prestigious ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies. It represents a unique look at the most successful companies within the American economy’s most dynamic segment—its independent small businesses. Microsoft, Dell, Domino’s Pizza, Pandora, Timberland, LinkedIn, Yelp, Zillow, and many other well-known names gained their first national exposure as honorees on the Inc. 5000.

The annual Inc. 5000 event honoring the companies on the list will be held October 10 to 12, 2019, at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa in Phoenix, Arizona. As always, speakers include some of the greatest innovators and business leaders of our Generation.

Apex Dental Partners started in 2014 and currently has 15 locations in Dallas, Oklahoma City and Tulsa. The group, founded by Dr. Layla Lohmann, David Lohmann and Matt Hale has non-branded and private group practice models. Their growth strategy is through affiliation, and in 2019 they plan to continue growing in their existing markets as well as expanding their supported practice base into other Texas cities.  Apex was featured in the Emerging Dental Groups to Watch in 2019 list.

Affinity Dental Management, Inc. which began in 2017 and is led by Dr. Craig Saltzman, has grown from a few endodontic locations into a multispecialty DSO with 28 locations in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Vermont. Experiencing very low turnover, with only one dentist out of 30 leaving since the DSO began two years ago, most of the original staff is still with them today. Tranquility Dental Wellness Center, which began in 2013, has three locations in the South Puget Sound area of Washington. In a very male-dominated space, the group, whose motto is “Experience Affordable Luxury,” was founded by a female dentist, Dr. Lori Noga. Tranquility was featured in the Emerging Dental Groups to Watch in 2019 list.

DECA Dental currently has 85 locations in Texas and has grown rapidly over the past eleven years. Founder Sulman Ahmed is very active in the DSO community. DECA Dental is also a member of the ADSO. Dr. Ahmed will be part of the DSO Growth panel discussion at the upcoming ADSO Partnering for Growth Summit coming up in September. You can find out more about the event here.

Strong Smiles Dental Care has two large practice locations in Maryland. One in Edgewater and the other location in Odenton. They also offer dental care seven days a week.

Smile Point PLLC is a Texas-based dental support organization that currently operates 19 locations. It was founded in 2012 and is led by Abhinav Rastogi.

Spring Dental has fifteen locations in Oklahoma. Led by Mike McInelly the dental group treats patients of all ages, from 2 to 92. They speak both English and Spanish.

Peak Dental Services, founded by A.J. Peak, is a dental support organization based in Colorado. It currently has 29 locations with more on the way.

Pyramid Dental Integration, with the consumer facing name of Vienna Smiles, has one office location in Vienna, Virginia.

Spark Orthodontics has ten orthodontic offices in Pennsylvania and was founded in 2010 by Dr. Jason M. Hartman, D.M.D., M.S.

Premier Orthodontic Specialists has seven locations in Arizona. The group was founded in 2006 and is led by Drs. Dustin and Tyler Coles

Simply Dental Management, which is headquartered in Hopkinton, MA has 30 practices in the New England area. The group was founded in 2005 by Dr. Sam Alkhoury.

Light Dental Studios has been in business since 1971, provides all specialty services under one roof, and has sixteen locations in Puget Sound area of Washington.

Comprehensive Finance uses a cloud-based system to offers payment solutions for healthcare providers including dentists, plastic surgeons, ophthalmologists, audiologists, and other healthcare specialists.

Five Lakes Professional Services provides a variety of services including developing an insurance participation strategy, PPO negotiations, credentialing and more. These services are designed to help dental offices do insurance better.

OrthoFi is a software and service solution designed to help orthodontists start more patients and streamline processes.

Planet DDS is a cloud-based DSO and dental group practice software company.

RevenueWell is a marketing and communication software specifically for dental practices to help streamline operations.
