Over 100 attendees collaborate at the 1st annual Scaling Up Group Dental Symposium

The Scaling Up Group Dental Symposium was successfully launched as a premiere group dental collaborative learning event in Louisville, KY, held November 19-20. The event was a day and a half of learning and development based on the current and future landscape of the group dentistry industry.

Leaders of DSOs across the country joined together to not only learn from guest lecturers, but also from one another through idea sharing and cultivating breakout sessions. The event started with a humble and encouraging presentation by Dr. Wayne Mortenson of Mortenson Dental Partners about his journey from one to 100 offices. Other presenters shared key industry data that not only showed where group dentistry is currently, but also indicators of where it is going. Attendees enjoyed the insights brought to the event by speakers such as Brian Colao of Dykema on regulatory issues in the DSO space and financial trends of the industry by Prairie Capital and Salva Girzhel of Key Bank. Steve Anderson presented on the Total Patient Experience and fundamentals for keeping patients at the focus of the dental practice.

The event concluded with Scott Colosi, President of Texas Roadhouse, sharing insights into the Texas Roadhouse culture: at the end of the day, no matter the industry, it is all about good business. Texas Roadhouse achieves good business by creating a fun and rewarding workplace for its team members that is reflected in the service provided to customers. The same principals and tips for success can be applied in any industry. But, Scaling Up provided DSOs with information that can lead to fundamentally sound strategic plans which can be executed with a focus on the people that make dentistry a rewarding career path, the patients and team members.
