For the dental industry in the Northeastern United States, Thanksgiving is a time for family, feasting, football, and packing for the Greater New York Dental Meeting.  While this is not a group practice or DSO specific dental meeting by any stretch of the imagination, there are still several dental support organizations exhibiting at the meeting.

The meeting, one of the largest in the country, runs from November 24th – November 29th, and the exhibits are open from November 26th – November 29th.  While this is a great time of year to be in New York City, it is also extremely expensive and it occurs right after the Thanksgiving holiday.  In fact, the exhibits open on the Sunday right after Thanksgiving.  While there are plenty of smaller or emerging dental group practices in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, exhibiting at this event may be cost prohibitive, inconvenient or unproductive for them.

There are various practice management courses available to solo practitioners at the NY meeting, the absence of any group practice/DSO content is glaring and disappointing, although not surprising. However, those looking to find out more about affiliating with a dental support organization, career opportunities or practice ownership with a group, can still visit the exhibit floor and meet with various dental support organizations.  Read the official Greater NY program HERE.  The DSOs exhibiting at the Greater New York Dental Meeting in 2017 are:

Affordable Dentures & Implants – Booth 1815
Allied Dental – Booth 3743
Aspen Dental – Booth 5028
Dental Care Alliance – Booth 5416
Dental One Partners – Booth 732
Great Expressions Dental Centers – Booth 3436
Heartland Dental – Booth 2209

You can bet that away from the exhibit floor, whether at the Jacob Javits Center, a coffee shop, or a hotel lobby, there will be several group practice, private equity and DSO meetings that will occur, and some of those meetings may shape the future of our industry. Group Dentistry Now may even be there.

It is interesting to note that there are half as many dental support organizations exhibiting at the Greater New York meeting than there were at the Chicago Mid Winter meeting earlier this year.  To see the list of DSO exhibitors at the Chicago Mid Winter meeting in 2017 click HERE.  There are several reasons for this.  Many of the DSOs that attended Chicago Mid Winter, but opted out of Greater NY, are Midwest focused or based groups such as My Community Dental Centers, Midwest Dental, Immediadent, Tru Family Dental, Chicagoland Smile GroupNorth American Dental Group and Elite Dental Partners.  Several others, such as Benevis and Pacific Dental Services, both of whom attended the Chicago meeting, are not exhibiting because they are currently not focused on the Northeastern part of the country.
