A brief glimpse at the DSOs, dental group practices, and fast-growing single location dental practices featured on the list:

Apex Dental Partners, which was featured on Group Dentistry Now’s Emerging Dental Groups to Watch in 2019 list, has an intense commitment to building long-term patient relationships and delivering continuity of care. Started in 2014, Apex believes doctor quality is their biggest differentiator. A key success has been their phenomenal support team that provides world-class business expertise to their network of affiliated practices, which they credit as a tremendous asset in their rapid growth. With locations in Dallas, Oklahoma City and Tulsa, Apex’s long-term growth plan for the next five years is continued market expansion into cities where they believe the practice and patient demographics align with their model. This is Apex’s second time to make the Inc. 5000 list.

Spring Dental, led by Mike McInelly, has ten Oklahoma locations. Founded in 2004, culture is paramount to the DSO as they create an upbeat, challenging, and friendly environment in which to work. Providing general, restorative, cosmetic, and orthodontic dental services, walk-ins are always welcome, and community service is an important part of the growing group. This is their second consecutive year on the Inc. 5000 list.

Smiles West Dental & Braces, founded by Dr. Barouir (Barry) Deirmenjian in 1996 with one location, the group currently has 16 locations throughout California. Featured on Group Dentistry Now’s Emerging Dental Groups to Watch in 2020 list, they are growing rapidly. A privately solo owned DSO self-funded by the CEO without any financial sponsors or PE backing, they are compassionate to the dental provider, while understanding the business necessities of the company, all the while providing multi specialty dental services to the community regardless of payor type or economic situation. Smiles West’s goal is to create a healthy multi specialty dental opportunity for all communities through access and acceptance of all insurances, while providing an amazing and unique environment regardless of economic background. Their growth is a amalgamation of key acquisitions/mergers and strategic startups.

Kids First Dental implements pediatric dentistry at its locations throughout South Carolina to the underserved areas of the state and to underprivileged children. Founded in 2009, it is led by Robert Ellis and headquartered in Fort Mill, South Carolina. The staff is bilingual, speaking both Spanish and English. The group has six locations. This is the second time they have been featured on the Inc. 5000 list.

Affinity Dental Management, founded in 2017 by an endodontist, Dr. Craig Saltzman, was featured on Group Dentistry Now’s Emerging Dental Groups to Watch in 2019 list and on The Group Dentistry Now Show: The Voice of the DSO Industry podcast to talk about their DSO’s integration strategies and share some of their secrets of success. The platform has grown from a few endodontic locations into a multispecialty DSO. They have found that specialty locations lend themselves well to centralization because of the limited number of services that they are providing in relation to a general dentist office. They acquired Concerned Dental Care in early 2020 and now have 37 offices, 83 clinicians and employ 400 people across Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, and New York. This is their second consecutive year on the Inc. 5000 list. Concerned Dental Care was also on Group Dentistry Now’s Emerging Dental Groups to Watch in 2019 list.

The Inc 5000 equation for growth percentage is:

[(Recent Yearly revenue – Base Year revenue) / Base Year revenue] x 100 = total growth percentage

For example, if 2016 revenue was $3 million and 2019 revenue is $15 million:

$15 million – $3 million = $12 million

12,000,000 / 3,000,000 = 4

4 x 100 = 400

Growth rate is 400 percent.
