The Largest Mobile Dental Surgical DSO Rolls up to Serve Veterans

Cornerstone Group Foundation, along with support from Cornerstone Dental Specialties, Glidewell Labs, Cornerstone Training Institute, and in partnership with the Lestonnac Free Clinic of Orange County, recently provided over $40,000 in donated dentistry to 11 military veterans and seven underserved residents of Orange County.

Cornerstone Dental Specialties is the largest mobile dental surgical DSO in North America, serving over 450 general dental practices in 9 states. Cornerstone Group Foundation is a non-profit charity focused on donated surgical dentistry to the underserved and our military veterans.

“Cornerstone Group Foundation is a 501c non-profit and was formed in order to give back to the communities we serve and that have been so generous to us. Helping veterans on this special day was an opportunity to show particular appreciation to those who have served this nation. We were equally excited that Glidewell supported this effort with the glidewell i.o.TM chairside restorative system which allowed the team to restore many of these patients within one hour of their treatment. Thus, closing an important clinical loop.” -Tom von Sydow, COO, Cornerstone Dental Specialties

The Honorable J. Luis Correa, Congressman from the 46th California District, was on hand to honor our veterans and the volunteers who served. In addition, he presented a special award to the oldest veteran to receive care: an Army air corps WWII Service member who is 99 years young.

“We could not have offered this treatment if it were not for the generous underwriting of our Corporate Sponsors Pacific Dental Services, J Morita, Seiler Microscopes, and my Endodontic Partners and Associates” -Dr. Hamid Abedi, DDS, CEO & Founder, Cornerstone Dental Specialties

Lestonnac Free Clinic has been providing free comprehensive medical and dental care to the low income and uninsured since 1979. Since most of our nations veterans do not qualify for dental services at the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, Lestonnac opened up services to the vets, providing free fillings, extractions, bridges, crowns and dentures. With the help of generous volunteer dentists and donors, so far 135 veterans have been provided exceptional dental care via 1,031 visits, completely free of charge.

Lestonnac continues to find innovative ways to help veterans obtain access to dental services which they have earned and deserve by expanding services at a dozen dental care fairs annually. The veterans dental program is one example of how Lestonnac works to create partnerships with other agencies to bridge service gaps and ensure that the vulnerable populations in our community find solutions to their medical and dental needs.

This was the first of many charity days planned for the Lestonnac Free Clinic Cornerstone Group Foundation partnership. The scientific evidence is overwhelming that oral disease has a direct impact on systemic disease. Having access to care for these most vulnerable members of our community is critical.

“Endodontic and Periodontal disease is often epidemic in this population and through this partnership we hope to make a small, yet powerful contribution.”-Ed Gerber, Executive Director Lestonnac Free Clinic.
