Leadership Changes at Large West Coast DSO

Dr. John Luther recently joined Western Dental & Orthodontics as their Chief Dental Officer.  Dr. Luther has enjoyed a career in the dental profession for more than 30 years as a champion for superior dental care and service excellence. Western Dental (with its affiliate Brident Dental & Orthodontics) is one of the nation’s largest dental providers, with over two million patient visits annually in more than 200 affiliated offices throughout California, Arizona, Nevada and Texas.  Last year, Western Dental expanded its network of orthodontists, oral surgeons, pedodontists, periodontists and endodontists to better service patient needs all within their local office.

Dr. Luther will represent dentists as a member of the senior management team and will be responsible for leading Western Dental’s dental policy, clinical quality, practice standards, and best practices programs.

Prior to joining Western Dental, Dr. Luther served as the Chief Dental Officer/Senior Vice President, Dental Management for DentaQuest, the third-largest oral health enterprise in the country. Before that, he was the Chief Dental Officer for UnitedHealthcare Dental, where he was responsible for the development of consumer-driven solutions that supported quality of care and managed costs. He provided strategic direction for network management, disease management and wellness programs, including those impacting early childhood.

Dr. Luther’s career also includes five years with the American Dental Association, serving as senior vice president, overseeing the division of dental practice. He also spent several years with Delta Dental of California and served as Dental Director for Dentistat in Saratoga, CA. Previously he owned and operated a successful private dental practice for 15 years in Placentia, CA.

After obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Biology from University of Southern California, Dr. Luther earned a D.D.S. from Northwestern University School of Dentistry.
