Largest Tooth Replacement DSO Solidifies its Position

Founded in 1975, Affordable Care is America’s largest dental support organization focused on tooth replacement services. Solidifying its dominance in the market, the DSO has just acquired DDS Dentures + Implant Solutions® (DDS).

Currently serving more than 260 affiliated dental practices in 39 states, each practice, which operates under the Affordable Dentures & Implants® (AD&I) brand, is individually owned and operated by a licensed dentist to provide dentures and implants. More than seven million patients have received services from AD&I affiliated practices. Each practice has an on-site dental laboratory, allowing the practice to provide same day dental service.

DDS is a group of 52 supported dental practices focused on providing complete-care general dentistry to adults, including extractions, removable dentures, and implant services. DDS-supported practices operate in seven states: Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas.

The decision to partner was made after careful consideration by both companies. The cultures and missions of both companies are parallel, and their supported practices serve a similar patient base. The integration team, comprised of key leaders from DDS and Affordable Care, will work together to identify best practices to apply across both groups.

With this acquisition, Affordable Care will serve as the DSO for two dental brands: Affordable Dentures & Implants and DDS Dentures + Implant Solutions. The two will continue to operate as separate brands with both served by Affordable Care. Permanent branding decisions will be made after the integration team takes time to assess each brand. Both groups will retain their concentration on denture and implant services.

Gene Kirtser, CEO

Gene Kirtser of Affordable Care will remain as CEO. Executives from both Affordable Care and DDS Dentures + Implant Solutions will take on leadership positions in the combined organization.

AD&I’s business support services are located in North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park. The DDS Support Center is located in Checotah, Oklahoma and it will continue to operate to support DDS practices as both groups work closely together to develop plans for integrating the businesses into one organization.

“This acquisition combines two successful companies with a shared goal of expanding patient access to high-quality dental care and tooth replacement services. We believe this combination enhances the growth prospects of both companies as well as the support services that we can offer our affiliated practices and dentists.” -Gene Kirtser, Chief Executive Officer of Affordable Care

Affordable Care’s guiding principles are represented by the acronym CARE. Curiosity and a bias for action fuel our innovation. Accountability to those we serve helps us deliver results. Respect and integrity are demonstrated in our actions. Engaged and passionate employees define our company.

The newly combined organization is majority-owned by Berkshire Partners, a Boston-based investment firm and an existing investor in Affordable Care. Having developed specific industry experience in several areas, including healthcare, the firm seeks to invest $50 million to $500 million of capital in each portfolio company.
