Dental Support Organization Donates to Dental Student Outreach Clinic

Kool Smiles, a provider of dental care for children and families in Indianapolis, recently donated $8,000 to the Indiana University School of Dentistry (IUSD) to expand service offerings at its Dental Student Outreach Clinic. The donation will help the clinic provide free root canals to Near Eastside adults in need. The IUSD Dental Student Outreach Clinic opened in 2009 and is run by volunteer dentists, faculty and students from the dental school. The clinic helps an average of 20-25 patients every other Saturday and remains open for 11 months of the calendar year. Many of the clinic’s patients who required root canals were previously unable to receive them due to cost barriers, faculty said.

“In the past, a lack of consistent funding made it difficult for patients to receive root canals, no matter how badly they needed them,” said Dr. Karen Yoder, a clinic faculty advisor. “We are pleased to finally be able to give members of the Near Eastside community convenient and sponsored access to this service.”

Kool Smiles has over 120 locations in 15 states and in the District of Columbia.  Kool Smiles currently operates in Arizona, Arkansas, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia.

Kool Smiles is managed by Benevis Practice Services.  Benevis is a dental support organization that not only manages Kool Smiles, but other 30 dental practice locations across the United States.  Benevis was founded by dentists in 2002 to provide non-clinical services to practices in Georgia and was originally named NCDR LLC.  In 2004 the company created the Boomerang dental practice management system.  Over the years the company developed strong relationships with many service vendors, built a robust patient call center, marketing, HR, and accounting support services designed specifically for the needs of dental offices.  In 2010, the dental service organization acquired DPMS, Inc. further expanding non-clinical support abilities.  The company officially changed its name to Benevis in 2014.
