According to Got Your 6*, “Like millions of Americans, veterans often do not get the dental care they need due to barriers like cost, fear, access and lack of insurance. Of the 21 million+ veterans across the U.S., fewer than 10 million are enrolled for U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health benefits, and more than 1.2 million lack health insurance altogether. The disparity is even more pronounced when it comes to dental care because the VA only provides dental benefits to veterans who are classified as 100% disabled, have been a prisoner of war, or have a service-connected dental condition or disability.”
As a way of serving those who served, dentists and their teams from nearly 450 Aspen Dental-branded practices across 37 states are opening their doors exclusively to veterans as part of the annual Day of Service on Saturday, June 9, 2018. The goal of Aspen’s Day of Service is to relieve patients’ pain, make them aware of what other dental needs they have, and connect them to free or low-cost resources so they can continue to address their dental care needs long-term. In 2017, over 4,500 veterans received services on that one day. Since 2014, dentists and their teams from Aspen Dental practices across the country have provided free care to over 17,000 veterans and people in need.
Appointments are required and still available so please spread the word to the veterans in your community. Please call 1-844-ASPEN HM (1-844-277-3646) to find a participating office near you.
*In the military, “Got your six” means “I’ve got your back.” The saying originated with World War I fighter pilots referencing a pilot’s rear as the six o’clock position. It is now a ubiquitous term in the military that highlights the loyalty and cooperation found in military culture. The Got Your 6 campaign chose this term because it is emblematic of the many skills that veterans bring back into their communities when they return home.
