The Inc. 5000 annual list of America’s fastest-growing privately held companies for 2020 has been released and there are 34 dental-related companies on the list this year. Out of those 34, 18 are dental care providers with a mix of DSOs, single location dental practices, and dental group practices.
Below, we included not only DSOs, single location dental practices, and dental group practices, but other dental related companies that dentists may partner with for services and/or products. (Note: Inc. 5000 no longer includes revenue information on their list.)
Companies on the 2020 Inc. 5000 are ranked according to percentage revenue growth from 2016 to 2019. To qualify, companies must have been founded and generating revenue by March 31, 2016. They must be U.S.-based, privately held, for-profit, and independent–not subsidiaries or divisions of other companies–as of December 31, 2019. (Since then, some on the list may have gone public or been acquired.) The minimum revenue required for 2016 is $100,000; the minimum for 2019 is $2 million. Inc. reserves the right to decline applicants for subjective reasons.
In 1982, Inc. introduced the Inc. 500 list of the fastest-growing privately held companies in the United States. Since then, this prestigious list of the nation’s most successful private companies has become the hallmark of entrepreneurial success and the place where future household names first make their mark. Pandora, 7 Eleven, Toys ‘R’ Us, Zipcar, Zappos.com and numerous other well-known brands have been honored by the Inc. 5000. In 2007, the Inc. 500 list expanded to the Inc. 5000, giving readers a deeper, richer understanding of the entrepreneurial landscape and capturing a broader spectrum of success.
Today, the list is a distinguished editorial award, a celebration of innovation, a network of entrepreneurial leaders, and an effective public relations showcase. The Inc. 5000 ranks companies by overall revenue growth over a three-year period. All 5,000 honoree companies are individually profiled on Inc.com. The top 500 are featured in the September 2020 issue of Inc. Magazine, the leading entrepreneurial advocate for 38 years running. Inc. also ranks the fastest-growing companies by industry, metro area, revenue, and number of employees, and also highlights women and minority run companies.
Companies are ranked according to the percentage growth of their annual revenue over a three-year period. To assess this they ask for a company’s base year and recent year revenues. This gives a three-year growth period.
Note: DSOs, dental group practices and dental practices are marked with an asterisk*

[(Recent Yearly revenue – Base Year revenue) / Base Year revenue] x 100 = total growth percentage
For example, if 2016 revenue was $3 million and 2019 revenue is $15 million:
$15 million – $3 million = $12 million
12,000,000 / 3,000,000 = 4
4 x 100 = 400
Growth rate is 400 percent.
