Recap of Dykema’s 3rd Annual Definitive Conference for DSOs

Dykema recently conducted their 3rd Annual Definitive Conference for DSOs in Dallas, TX.  According to Dykema they had over 170 people register for the event and over 75 DSOs and dental group practices were represented.  Attendees also included several large DSOs, private equity firms and dental suppliers.  Smaller DSOs and dental group practices were well represented, not only from Texas, but from all over the US.  Dykema is a law firm that operates a special DSO division that caters to this growing business model in dentistry.

The event gathered so much interested that the venue was relocated to the Aloft Hotel in Dallas, TX to accommodate the additional attendees.  The Aloft hotel in Dallas is an extremely unique hotel as this 1920’s era building originally served as the Santa Fe railroad freight terminal and commercial dry goods warehouse.

Highlights of the conference included Key Trends Impacting US DSOs presented by Karan Garg of Houlihan Lokey, a panel discussion called What’s the Real Multiple? as well as  Select Regulatory Issues presented by Dykema.  A personal standout was the last session on the first day which featured a panel discussion with Stuart W Bowen Jr, Inspector General, Texas Health & Human Services Commission and Dr Stuart Spitzer, Texas State Representative, Human Services Committee.  In the DSO Legislative & Government Affairs Update session attendees were able to interact with the speakers to get an understanding of what Health & Human Services Commission is working on and their understanding of DSOs.  Several DSOs talked about credentialing delays as well as issues with the Texas dental board.

The networking opportunities were plentiful and gave vendors, DSOs, group practices and private equity attendees the chance to discuss business and build their collective networks.

Overall if you were looking for an opportunity to meet smaller group practices, mid-sized DSOs or PE groups this conference was a winner.
